The mission of FPPC Communications is to provide timely, accurate, and reliable information to the media and the public about the Commission’s work. The FPPC supports meaningful transparency in the political process by clearly communicating the Commission’s actions, decisions, policies, and enforcement activities.

News Releases are official FPPC communications that provide timely, accurate information about the Commission’s work. They highlight significant enforcement actions, regulatory developments, policy updates, and public outreach efforts, and are designed to give the public and media clear, factual insight into how the FPPC carries out its mission to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity in California government.

There are four types of news releases:

  • Enforcement Decisions. Provides a summary of enforcement decisions approved by the Fair Political Practices Commission at its regular monthly hearing.
  • Hearing Summaries. Provides a summary of the actions the Fair Political Practices Commission takes at its monthly hearing.
  • Press Releases. Provides updates on events, news, or changes affecting the Fair Political Practices Commission and may include statements from the Chair.
  • Quarterly Updates. Provides a quarterly update on regulations, advice letters, Commission opinions, enforcement matters acted on by the Commission, and legislation the Commission is tracking.

There are four types of quarterly updates:

    1. Campaign Reporting and Advertising Disclosure
    2. Conflict of Interest, Revolving Door, and Statement of Economic Interests
    3. Ethics - Gifts, Honorarium, Travel, and Use of Campaign Funds
    4. Lobbying

  • FPPC Communications is committed to policies and procedures that offer timely access to public information, help educate the media and the public on the FPPC’s role, and promote the spirit of the Political Reform Act.
  • Public records are provided in accordance with the Political Reform Act, the California Public Records Act, and any other applicable authority or regulation.
  • When and where appropriate, the FPPC can facilitate subject matter experts as well as Commission leadership for media availability.
